I only run in the cold:)

Today has been a great day, today is the day that I did my first cross country 5k race.  I told myself that I was not going to stress myself out or push myself too hard, the bottom line was I wanted to have a good time.  I have been watching the weather all week crossing my fingers that the snow would hold out.  Well the good news was that the snow did hold off, but the temperature today was a very cold 24!  The day started off with a sandwich thin, topped with 1 Tb of Naturally More, and topped with a banana.

Then Doug and I suited up to endure the cold!

We look cold and we are inside in this photo:)

To run I wore:

  • sports tank top
  • sports long sleeve top
  • Columbia Titanium jacket
  • Eddie Bauer pants
  • ipod
  • Eddie Bauer running gloves
  • Heart Rate monitor
  • Hat
  • face mask

I know the list seems a bit excessive, but I would not have wanted one less piece of equipment or clothing.

Look how scary the face mask was:)

I know I look like a serial killer, but it hurt to breathe in the cold air!

At the end:

doneI have to admit, not my best time…but…one that I am totally happy with!  It was below freezing out there, a course that I have never run, and it was hilly and windy that is for sure!  I think the ball of my right foot was like an ice cube for the most of the race.  It really hurt running on a frozen foot!

After the run we went back to Kevin’s moms house for breakfast.  I had another over-night oat bowl.    On our way back to Omaha the snow started to come down and as I type we have a solid inch of snow out there.  I wanted a low stress dinner and so we made crock-pot chili.

chilicrotchJust took a few cans of various beans from the cupboard, 1 lb of ground beef, leftovers from the black bean dinner Friday, a couple cans of tomatoes, and an onion.  Super easy and it was great!

1 cup of chili, half an apple, and my last corn vita top!

Tonight I also made muffins for Kevin to have this week.

Cranberry pumpkin muffins!

I also am in the process of making the turkey that broke the challenge!  I can not wait to taste this bird because I poured a dark beer in with the bird and added lots of Bangkok seasoning.  The taste test will go on tomorrow, I will post with the results!

Yes, I know I am wearing gloves! Fresh, cold meat kind of grosses me out:(

That is it for the big new around here, hope everyone had a great weekend!

Molly has been laying on the couch for most of the afternoon. You would have thought that she ran the 5K!
