Well, not really. But, at the rate we are canning things around here you would sure think that it is just around the corner. I for one am happy that we are getting some great fall weather. It can continue this for a good long time!
How did you spend your Labor Day? Did you have to work? We were lucky enough to get to spend more time with family. Kevin’s dad and step-mom came to Omaha today and we were able to join them for lunch. Our plan was to meet downtown, but that was just not to be. Instead due to crazy festival traffic we just ate at the Wheatfields closer to us rather than downtown. Since it was a perfect fall morning we enjoyed our meal outside.
It is just a sliced potato casserole with chicken, onion, mushrooms, tomato, and cheese. I was really tempted by a Belgian waffle topped with apples and streusel, but the casserole won out. A great time was had by all of us just chatting and enjoying the weather.
After lunch we picked up some more canning supplies and headed home with a mission.
- Chunky cinnamon applesauce
- Plum-Orange jam
- Spiced Pear Butter
From what I tasted everything was really tasty! I can’t wait to try them later this year. I have some plans for my Asian Pears, possibly with some Tazo Vanilla Rooibos! It is amazing all of the time that goes into making some of these things. But, we have really had a fun time picking the fruit, processing it, and then canning it. It will be worthwhile each and every time we break out a new jar this winter!
In between sweating and sealing we had dinner.
- Romaine lettuce
- Red onion
- A green pepper from mom’s garden
- Cherry tomatoes from mom’s garden
We also went the easy route and did a frozen pizza
A great weekend I have to say! Lots of family time, projects, and relaxation! We are going to watch a movie and then go to bed. Hope you enjoyed your weekend as well!
